Workplace Retaliation

We recently represented a client who believed she was retaliated against in the workplace. She had reported harassment to her supervisor, and, after she reported the harassment, she was denied a promotion in the workplace. She believed that she was much more qualified than the person who received the promotion. In fact, one of the people that was making the recommendation of who to promote was involved in the complaint that she had filed.

In the state of California, it’s illegal to retaliate against an employee if they engage in some type of protected activity, meaning if they report something unlawful or oppose any type of discrimination or harassment, it’s illegal to retaliate against them.
