Some co-workers were performing some acts that she believed were unlawful, and she reported them. After she reported that, her employer began to treat her differently. Her employer began to retaliate against her. In the state of California, it’s illegal to retaliate against an employee if that employee reports something that they believe is illegal or opposes illegal activity.
